You are warmly invited to the exhibition opening of Flowers for Palestine and commemoration of Nakba Day.
In October 2024 a small group in Whanganui made the first stitches on what became "Flowers for Palestine - Putiputi mō Parihitini", a 10 metre long, heavily embroidered artwork. Over 7 months 70 people came together to create a powerful symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people. Every stitch represents and honours the innocent lives lost in the genocide in Gaza. The intention of the project was to draw attention to the plight of the Palestinian people, expressing grief, love and hope. It demonstrates the strength and effectiveness of community action.
On 15th May the Whanganui Palestine Solidarity Group will commemorate Nakba Day with the exhibition of Flowers for Palestine. The Nakba, also known as the Palestinian Catastrophe, comprised the destruction of Palestinian society and homeland in 1948 and the permanent displacement of Palestinian people.
