Description

One year ago, on Jan. 29, 2024, 6-year-old Hind Rajab and her family sought to escape the violence surrounding them in Gaza – only to be met with the very thing they were fleeing from. The Israeli military brutally killed her and her family members as they fled, as well as the paramedics sent to save her.

In the year since the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take immediate steps to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza, the situation on the ground has only deteriorated, highlighting Israel’s “colossal failure” in implementing the measures, a group of aid organizations said in a report just released.

At the same time, the surge in aid Gaza has seen since Israel’s fragile ceasefire with Hamas took effect a little more than a week ago underscores how “simple it would have been for the government of Israel to have decided to provide the bare minimum needed for Palestinians to survive at any point,” said Scott Paul, the director of peace and security at Oxfam America, a co-author of Monday’s report.

According to data from the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, there are currently 898 military checkpoints in the West Bank, including 18 that were installed since the beginning of this year.  Amir Daoud, Director General of Publication and Documentation at the Commission, explained to the Palestine Chronicle that Israel has intensified its policy of oppression in the West Bank by enforcing strict closures and enabling settler militias to target Palestinian villages and towns. “Israel is tightening its grip on Palestinians by closing roads while, at the same time, granting settlers unrestricted movement to carry out attacks. This demonstrates a clear functional exchange between settlers and the army in the Palestinian territories,” Daoud said.

Through this new, more intensive closure system, Israel aims to create a fragmented geography of densely populated areas separated into isolated cantons under its control. This approach moves beyond restricting movement to establishing a system of complete domination.  “The checkpoints vary in design, from dirt mounds to electronic gates equipped with surveillance cameras and automated firing systems, turning them into instruments of torture,” Daoud said.  Israel is investing billions to enforce this system of subjugation.

The closure of checkpoints and the resulting congestion in Palestinian cities have coincided with an increase in illegal Jewish settlers’ attacks on various areas, including targeted assaults on Palestinians and their vehicles near these barriers.

President Trump has displayed his zionist whore colours by saying he wants to “clean out” Gaza and relocate its population to US client states Egypt and Jordan, which would of course be a textbook case of ethnic cleansing. It would also align perfectly with longstanding Israeli agendas to remove Palestinians from their homeland so that their territory can be seized and settled by Jews.  Repeat after me, "Fuck this shit"!!!

Israel's Bombs May Have Stopped, But the Genocide Is Not Over

The Genocide Continues
Yes, Israel’s bombs have stopped, but the genocide is not over. With a destroyed and collapsed healthcare system, we will continue to see more Palestinians die, as they are unable to get the treatment necessary to be able to survive the devastation that Israel (with US bombs and help, of course) meted out against them. Israel’s bombs targeted virtually all hospitals leaving only half of Gaza’s hospitals partially – not fully – functional and with thousands in need of medical care. Gaza is now the site of the most child amputees in the world.

But it isn’t just the collapse of the medical system. Israel has targeted all of the Gaza Strip. No place was safe; no place remains unaffected, and it’s unclear if the extremely fragile, three-phase ceasefire deal will even lead to an end to the 15-month war (many expect it won't). Israeli leaders made it clear throughout their bombing campaign that they intended to make Gaza unlivable. In voicing his opposition to the ceasefire arrangement, ultranationalist Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich – never one to miss an opportunity to show how racist and fascist he is – took to social media to assure his supporters that Gaza “is ruined and disintegrated, uninhabitable, and it will remain that way. Don't be impressed by the forced joy of our enemy. This is an animalistic society that sanctifies death. Very soon, we will erase their smile again and replace it with cries of grief and the wails of those who were left with nothing.”
